Dr Sunjae Lee

Expertise:
  Herbalism, Naturopathy, Preventive Medicine
Knows Languages:
  English
Resume:

I grew up in Massachusetts and went to college in Rochester, NY for chemistry while continuing studies in jazz saxophone and bass. While working as a chemical engineer I realized that my calling was in holistic healthcare after pursuing natural health methods for myself as well as observing the way that it helped several family members. I moved to Portland, OR and attended the National College of Natural Medicine, the first Naturopathy school, at which I studied a 6 year combined degree program of Naturopathy and Oriental Medicine.

At NCNM we were trained in various modalities such as nutrition, western and eastern botanical medicine, bodywork, minor surgery, acupuncture, moxibustion, while also being trained to become Primary Care Physicians by learning how to diagnose and treat various diseases using conventional methods as well. In addition to the standard coursework, I also pursued extra courses in the form of:

• 2.5 years of Shiatsu massage training: Japanese acu-pressure therapy

• 2 years of mentorship and 1 year of fixed clinical shifts with Dr. Joon Hee Lee DAOM, specializing in Chinese Herbalism with an emphasis on Shang Han Lun and Jin Gue Yao Lue formulas

• 1 year of mentorship with Dr. Bob Quinn DAOM and Daniel Silver LAc, specializing in Japanese meridian therapy and non-insertive acupuncture techniques

• 2 years of Classical Chinese language study at NCNM and outside workshops with Sabine Wilms, PhD

I believe that in order to practice holistic medicine, I must use all the resources available to me, and I enjoy using the various tools that I’ve gathered over the years in unique combinations suited towards each patient. Longterm health involves a cooperative approach from both practitioner and patient and I like to encourage each patient to be as active as possible in their own healing process. In addition to traditional medicine, I am also a professional musician and painter and truly believe in the healing and enlivening power of art. I encourage all of my patients to find a creative medium and use it to regularly express themselves.

Expertise:
  Chiropractic, Counselling, Orthotics, Sports Medicine
Knows Languages:
  English, Korean
Resume:

I attended Palmer College of Chiropractic where I received my Doctorate of Chiropractic degree. I also attended Kyung Hee University and received a Masters degree in sports medicine. I have studied a wide range of chiropractic techniques including Thompson, Diversified, Gonstead, Activator Method, and Cox Technique. I also use very successful protocols for the non-surgical treatment of the cervical and lumbar spine with the use of DTS Spinal Decompression Therapy and Active Release technique. I have experience with sports injury, auto accident, post surgery, and scoliosis cases, and have also worked with medical doctors in Dallas, Texas.

I view wellness from a holistic perspective. My concept of wellness consists of using Chiropractic therapy as the foundation for wellness. With this foundation, I believe other aspects of health like nutrition, exercise, stretching, strength training and patient education can be incorporated into the Wellness model. I believe that to be well requires getting adjusted on a regular basis and having an optimal functioning spine and nervous system: This equates to optimal health. If the nervous system is not functioning as well as it could be, the body is in a state of "dis-ease." The absence of symptoms does not, therefore, equate to health. I believe that wellness is the optimal functioning of mind, body and spirit.

Resume:

I was born in Korea, and I immigrated to Canada with my family when I was 11 years old. While doing my pre-med studies, I had an opportunity to observe Chiropractic doctors in practice. It changed my view of healthcare, moving from sick care, into holistic and preventive health care. I wanted to change the quality of the life for my patients.

Upon graduating from University of Calgary with a Bachelor’s degree in Human physiology and exercise, I entered Palmer College of Chiropractic, where I obtained my Doctorate of Chiropractic degree. While in Chiropractic College, I have taken extensive post-graduate training, which includes:

• 200+ hours of training in Gonstead technique

• 200+ hours in Functional clinical rehabilitation, including Selective Functional Movement Assessment ® (SFMA), Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization ® (DNS) and Shirley Sahrmann

• 100+ hours in Soft tissue techniques, including Active Release Technique ® (ART) and Instrument assisted soft tissue techniques.

I believe in correcting spinal joint misalignments to restore normal function of nervous system and to restore normal joint movement. I utilize Active Release Technique to correct muscle imbalance in order to facilitate the healing process. Lastly, individualized functional rehabilitation is used to retrain proper movement pattern to achieve ideal movement in everyday life and in high level sports.

I aspire to work with all ages, gender and health, to restore their health so that they may live their life to the fullest. I also inspire to work with athletes to increase their potential and level of play.

Job Position:
  Aesthetic Medicine Physician
Resume:

Rehabilitative Specialist / Balance exercise Trainer

I have always enjoyed sports, even at a young age.I majored in Sports Management during my university years, and dreamed of working with sports athletes. While taking classes in sports medicine I learned how effective treatments could be,if administered properly. But, it was my own serious and debilitating knee injury, which required surgery, that lead me to a career of rehabilitation exercise and therapy.

Because of my active life, and consequently, my serious injuries, I truly understand the patient's experience. I have been on the recieving end of the treatments that I now provide. This gives me a unique perspective, and an honest unerstanding of my partients. Now, after recieving great rehabilitation therapy, I can provide the same therapies, and help my own patients recover, and improve their current health and wellness. Activity doesn't have to stop after an injury. I hope I can help you stay active and healthy.

Resume:

My journey towards physiotherapy begin during my previous career in fashion designer. During this period, I always suffered neck, shoulder and back pain and even experienced a depression due to my irregular lifestyle and rigorous work. After being diagnosed with a herniated disc, I tried receiving a range of treatments without relief.

One day, while reading a health related book at a bookstore, I realized that my symptoms could be improved through a combination of proper lifestyle with obtaining regular physiotherapy treatments. After seeing improvement from this method, I made sure to constantly check my own health and maintain proper lifestyle.

Subsequently, I decided to enroll in graduate school to obtain a Masters degree in Physiotherapy at Hanseo University in Korea. As a physical therapist at Create Wellness Center, my goal is to continually enhance my knowledge of the human body to help my patients obtain a better qualify of life.
